FMQB’s No Trade Clause

Aaahhhh, it’s that time of year again. It’s getting cooler, the leaves will be turning soon, and America’s favorite sport is back! Other than the playoffs, this is one of my favorite times of year! Read below for my upcoming season synopsis and predictions.

FMQB Apologizes:

I have been the biggest Tebow proponent out there. My defense is that coaches can’t get over the fact that the guy wins, even if he’s not a standard QB. Well this preseason before the final game, he looked pretty awful. Even his 2 TD performance was essentially short throws and the WR did the work. I’m backing off the Tebow bandwagon for now (and no, it’s not too late).

Broncos Make a Statement:

So last night we were anxiously awaiting the kickoff game of the season, only to be disappointed with a lightning delay (on a side note, the same weatherman looking at blue skies and calling a lightning delay has just been fired and sent to Miami, where this week’s Dolphin’s game will get hit with a snow delay…). It’s funny how upset you can get as a football fan having to wait an extra 30 minutes, you just spent 7 months without football! Anywho, wow did the Broncos put on a clinic. Peyton ties the NFL record for 7 TD passes in a game! Second side note, he can average 2.8 TD’s a game (very doable) and break Brady’s 50 TD record. The Broncos were out to make a statement last night. First, they wanted to show the Ravens they had no bragging rights for beating them in Denver last year in the playoffs, and the Ravens got TROUNCED! Second, there was definitely a message sent to Brady and the Patriots saying “Miss Welker Yet?” Very impressive performance and reason I have chosen the Broncos to win it all.

FMQB: The Dream

*Special Edition!

I meant to post this on Friday, but totally forgot. Anyway, here is a Special Summer Edition of FMQB! It’s not often that I write a post in early June, but FMQB had an amazing football experience that needs to be shared to the masses (ok, 7 readers). Last week, FFMQB surprised FMQB with an amazing birthday present; a trip to Canton, OH and the Pro Football Hall of Fame! The Mecca of the NFL. All players want to go there, and any true fan wants to go as well. As if my passion for football wasn’t big enough, I got to go in and be surrounded by 107 years of football history and memorabilia. Needless to say, it was tough to contain my excitement.

Shuttle There:

We had to park in a parking lot at the stadium due to the festivities (which I will talk about soon), but there was the cutest old lady describing her crush on Jim Thorpe and her excitement for football. She was like everybody’s ideal grandma who could actually talk football with you. Anyway, it was a fun start to the hall. Continue Reading

FMQB: Champions!

Let me ask a legitimate question, are we ever going to have a bad Super Bowl game again?!?! I’m not sure we’ve seen one in the past decade! The last blowout game I can remember was the Buccaneers vs Raiders game in 2003, but let’s face it, that game is still causing excitement (ahem, Mr. Bill Callahan). Otherwise, every single game has come down to the fourth quarter, most of them the final drive, and even some the final play! After the first play of the 2nd half (Kickoff return for TD), I began to get disappointed as I could tell this was becoming a blowout and we wouldn’t get an exciting game. But apparently the SuperDome “wasn’t ready for this jelly,” and the lights fizzled out just a few minutes after Beyonce’s performance. Or it could have been the 49ers fan who worked at Entergy. Either way, they went out and all momentum for the Ravens was killed and they wouldn’t score another TD in the final 28 minutes. The 49ers did what they do best, and mounted a valiant comeback only to fall short. Let’s dive into the game a bit more: Continue Reading

FMQB: Super Bowl Sunday Edition!

We are T-minus 48 hours until my favorite day of the year! The day that each team in the NFL is playing for all season, the day that 5 months of gritty performance, and hard work all comes to a culmination as we find out who the Champion of the NFL is! This day is so ingrained in my life, that I can tell you exactly what I was doing or who I was with from every Super Bowl since I was 5. The last time the 49ers were in the Super Bowl was 18 years ago. I still remember watching it in my family room, and wanting the Chargers to win until I saw how awesome Steve Young was. I recorded the game and watched it later. I remember Deion Sanders intercepting the final pass of the game as well. This game began to shape me as a football fan. In 2000, it was the second year of my annual Super Bowl party to watch the Ravens and Giants. I remember really wanting the Giants to win that game too (I see a theme here). We went bowling before the game, and came back to watch it with my buddies Adam and Kyle. The Ravens completely dominated that game, with the Giants only score on a kickoff return. I’m excited to see where this years’ game falls in NFL history. Continue Reading

FMQB: Game of the Year! Followed by Game of the Year!

This past weekend is the epitome of why I love the NFL. High scoring, big comebacks, exciting play, and nail biter games! I watched Sunday’s Broncos vs Ravens game and immediately knew I was watching the Game of the Year! Then on Sunday, I watched the end of the Atlanta game to see the Seahawks come back down by 20 in the 4th quarter to be ahead with 31 seconds left, only to have Matt Ryan do a crazy drive for a last minute FG. My initial thought after that game? “Wow that was the Game of the Year!” This is why I LOVE the NFL playoffs! Continue Reading

FMQB: Age of the Running Quarterback

Interesting Thought of the Week:

The only rookie QB to win a playoff game wasn’t the #1 or #2 overall pick who came in as the “savior of the franchise.”

Interesting Thought of the Week #2:

Adrian Peterson ran for 405 yards in 2 games against the Packers during the season. Analysts across the league said that they successfully “Shut Down” AP on Saturday. He had 99 yards at 4.5 yards per carry! Now there’s a testament to how good he is if that’s considered being “shut down.” For the record, if AP was “shut down” for 16 games a season, he would have a 1584 yard season. Continue Reading

FMQB: The Adrian Peterson Show

Yours truly had the amazing experience of attending the Week 17 matchup between the Vikings and Packers. Our work hit a nearly impossible goal, so our reward was the company seats in Row 5 off the 20 yard line. Huge implications, the Vikings needed to win to even make the playoffs, while the Packers needed to win to get a first round bye in the playoffs. Plus it was a rivalry game! Blair Walsh kicked a 54 yard FG on our side, and dang that seems so much longer in real life! Ponder and Rodgers combined for 7 TD’s. Vikes went up quick and seemingly had the game in hand until the Packers came back. Then Walsh hit the game winner as time expired. The main reason everybody was on edge though was to watch Adrian Peterson try to break Eric Dickerson’s all time rushing record. He got SOOOO Close! Only 9 yards shy of it! He had a whopping 199 yard game as well. Overall, one of the more exciting games I’ve ever been to, and that place was loud! Continue Reading

FMQB: Quote of the Year

He Did It!!!

Congrats to Calvin Johnson for taking down 1 of Jerry Rice’s 10,000 NFL records! But this one was a biggie. While most people wondered if he could make it or not, he calmed any fears by getting the final 200+ yards in one game! Now he basically needs a decent game to break 2000 yds. People have diminished the record, saying they are “garbage time yards” or since the Lions aren’t winning, it’s not as impressive. But it just proves that teams know who the ball is going to, and still can’t stop him. Next up? Eric Dickerson’s record.

FMQB: Last Blog Post before Armageddon

Usually I’m pumped to be the first column to talk about the Thursday night game. Well this week it’s a bit different, I get to be the last major football column (ok, help me dream a little bit) to ever be published. Well I’ve maxed out all of my credit cards, invited only a select few family and friends to join me in my underground bunker, and quit my job (just kidding). So let’s hope everybody’s ready!

In Colin we Trust:

To all the haters, Kaepernick is 4-1 as a starter in the NFL. He has defeated Tom Brady and Drew Brees, both in enemy territory! He also has a 101.5 QB rating, and has 12 total TD’s versus only 2 INT’s. Anybody who still doesn’t think he belongs needs to breathe that in for a second.

How Crazy is Emmitt Smith’s Record:

Emmitt Smith’s rushing record stands at 18,355 yards. To put this in perspective, Steven Jackson just hit the 10,000 yard club on Sunday (Congrats Steven!!!), and is still over 8,000 yards shy. Another crazy anectdote, Adrian Peterson who has been tearing up the league for 6 years is still 10,000 shy of Smith’s record!

Sportsmanship Award:

Greg Schiano started the season slow, and battled an NFL outcry of diving at the knees of offensive linemen while the winning team was taking a knee. The Football Gods rewarded him with a 4 game winning streak and a potential shot at the playoffs before letting him down.

Recently, Pete Carroll feels like he’s back at USC, and is throwing into the endzone with a 50 point lead. Well last week was worse. Up 47-17 in the 4th quarter, Seattle ran a fake punt 47-17. Carroll says it wasn’t his call, but seriously? If players realize that, not one person said “What are we doing?” Watch the Football Gods reward them with a playoff berth and then an ugly playoff blowout loss.

Game of the Year:

Wow, did anybody see the entirety of Sunday night’s game?!?! Luckily we had it on in the background while wrapping Christmas gifts, otherwise we may have switched it once it was 31-3 (the Survivor finale was on afterall). But other than Peyton Manning, the only other QB where no lead is safe is Tom Brady. It was crazy how with only 1 defensive stop they were within 14 points. And then they kept scoring and scoring. All of a sudden a 28 point lead was blown and it was tied 31-31!!! But then Kaepernick threw a TD pass on the 2nd play after the tie and the 49ers ran away from it there.

Stat of the Week #1:

The Chiefs had 8 yds total rushing

Stat of the Week #2:

Tim Tebow had a better passer rating on Monday night than Mark Sanchez did. And this was with 1 throw which was incomplete

Stolen Stat of the Week #3:

Until Sunday, only two of the 208 NFL games this season had been shutouts. On Sunday, there were three shutouts in 14 games. TMQ

Stat of the Week #4:

Adrian Peterson is averaging 6.3 yards per rush; Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder is averaging 5.9 yards per pass

Stat of the Week #5:

Andrew Luck is tied for the lead in most Interceptions at 18. Typical for a rookie QB, but he doesn’t have much to be ashamed about, his co-leader? Drew Brees

Stat of the Week #6:

Seattle has won its past two games by a combined score of 108-17.

Quote of the Week:

“The only entertaining thing about watching Monday night’s game was seeing just how bad Sanchez is” FMQB

Quote of the Week #2:

Hochuli’s charging $1000 an hour at his law firm” Al Michaels when Ed was taking forever to review a play

Realization of the Week:

Sanchez was so bad on Monday night, that he got 2 Quarterbacks fired! Jets came out and said they were parting ways with Tebow and a high probability for trading Sanchez. Guess who’s on the rumor mill? A straight up Sanchez for Vick trade!

FMQB: Look up “Bounty” in the Dictionary

Posted by fmquarterback on December 14, 2012

Hangin On…

How are the Jets still in the playoff chase? The Jets are 1 game out of playoffs and play Buffalo, Tennessee, and San Diego to close out of the season. They’ve also won 3 of their last 4. Cowboys have also won 4 of 5. BTW, Cleveland has won 3 in a row, so have the Rams. Bears have lost 4 of 5

Stat of the Week (TMQ)

New Orleans gained 487 offensive yards, and lost by 25 points. TMQ

QB Stats of the Week:

Although not qualified to be on the stat, take a look at the following QB Ratings:

Shaun Hill: 157.9

Kyle Orton: 137.1

Derek Anderson: 118.8

Greg McElroy: 118.5

Kirk Cousins: 107.0

Record Watch:

Adrian Peterson: 1600 yds. 505 shy of the rushing record, or 168 yds per game

Calvin Johnson: 1546  yds. 282 yds shy of Rice’s record, 454 shy of 2000. That’s 94 per game to beat Rice, or 151 per game to break 2000.

Aldon Smith: 19.5 sacks. Only 3 shy of Strahan, 1 per game breaks it. At current pace, Smith will have 24 for the year

Crazy Schedule:

In Week 15, the NFL is setting a record with 6 games between teams with winning records this late in the season. There are 4 teams vying for 2 spots in the AFC, there are 7 teams vying for 2 spots in the NFC.

Definition of Bounty:

This week Paul Tagliabue reversed the suspensions of the Saints players involved in the Bounty scandal. But in saying that, Tags said “the players participated in a performance pool that rewarded key plays, including hard tackles.” Isn’t that the definition of what a Bounty is? You’re toeing a pretty fine line there.

Blowout:

Ouch, watching the Seahawks absolutely demolish the Cardinals in a 58-0 beating was atrocious. The Cards had 8 turnovers, and couldn’t even score a garbage TD. Talk about a fall from grace, 9 weeks ago they were 4-0 and the surprise of the season.

Exciting Times:

My head tells me that the Rams won’t make the playoffs, but my heart knows they are still in it. The past 5 seasons, I have basically known that the Rams were out of the chase by week 4. For the first time in forever, they actually have a shot at the division in Week 15! The Rams have won 4 more games than last season, and things seem to be slowly turning around. If the Rams win out, they would be 9-6-1, beating out any 9-7 team out there. Also, if San Francisco loses out, the Rams would take the division! Both are pretty rare, but still.

For the record, if the Bears beat the Packers, and the Vikings win out, they win the division as well!

Weekly Humor:

I am going to start implementing a little weekly humor regarding the NFL.

Christian Ponder’s fiancé talked him into proposing last week, she said “This is the only way you’re going to get a ring

Courtesy of Costaki Economopolous:
Seattle beat AZ 58-0! That’s a lopsided score even for a Harlem Globetrotter’s game.
The last time Cardinals got that embarrassed involved the Catholic church.
58 points?! I’ve heard the phrase “The Defense Rests” but that’s ridiculous.
Redskins won, but RGIII sprained his knee, so once again Wounded Knee has placed the Redskins’ future in jeopardy.
Jamaal Charles got an autograph from Peyton Manning – easily the best quarterback signing the Chiefs have made in 25 years.
Tebow was active on Sunday…He never plays though, my jacket has more snaps then him

It has been 6 days since our last arrest. I’ve decided to revive this again after a couple weeks. Apparently after smashing the previous streak, the NFL had to end it abruptly by having 2 players killed for stupid reasons.
