Romo’s Back!
Sorry for that crappy pun, but Tony Romo squashed any questions that he should be playing on Sunday. Granted, he was playing Jacksonville, I could probably throw 300 on since they don’t blitz. But the panicking Dallas crowd has hushed for the moment as
Six TD Bonanza:
For the third straight week, a QB has thrown 6 TD’s. Aaron Rodgers had to show up the others though, and throw all 6 of his in the first half. I remember watching a Sunday night game in the early 2000s with Manning playing against the Saints (it’s pathetic that I remember this, I just looked it up and it was 2003). He also got it early, and I remember practically praying to see him toss a 7th and tie the record. Even 6 at that time was unheard of to me. But we’ve actually seen 6+ TD’s 14 times since that Sunday night in ’03. This is proof the game has changed.
Game of the Year #2:
Nothing will beat the Broncos Seahawks game, but the Saints and 49ers put on a show Sunday! The 49ers took an 11 point lead, and quickly gave that up to be down by 3 with 1:52 left in the game. The 49ers were about to go 3 and out before that incredible across the field bomb to Michael Crabtree on 4th and 10. Somehow the Saints still got a chance to win, and threw a perfect Hail Mary to Jimmy Graham. 3 things about this play: I don’t care how much the cornerback flopped, it was still pass interference. 2: If you watch the play, Graham didn’t need to push off, he timed the jump perfectly on a perfect throw. 3: Loved the shot of Jim Harbaugh rolling his eyes and throwing his play sheet when that happened! Going into OT, the Saints somehow blew it again with a turnover in their territory which made for a quick and painless FG for the 49ers. Tons of aspects to this game and one of the better ones this year.
Lions Still At It:
Detroit has won their past 3 games while trailing with less than 2 minutes left. In fact they scored game winners with 1:29, 0:29, and 0:00 time left. These are games they would have likely lost last year, instead they too are alone in first in their division. The Week 17 Packer matchup is already starting to look like a doozy!
Unfortunate Stat of the Week:
In 2006, Carson Palmer signed a contract extension 10 days before blowing out the ACL in his knee. In 2014, Carson Palmer signed a contract extension 3 days before blowing out the ACL in his same knee.
Unfortunate (For Me) Stat of the Week #2:
In 4 of the 6 Rams losses, they have held the lead in the game, 3 of which they led at halftime.
Stat of the Week #3:
In the last 2 games, Chicago has let up 51 and 55 points respectively
Reader Stat of the Week #4:
The Saints are leading their division at 4-5. The Ravens are last in their division at 6-4
Reader Stat of the Week #5:
Jermaine Kearse, Doug Baldwin, and Cooper Helfet are the 2 starting WRs and the now starting TE for the Seahawks. All 3 were undrafted.
Reader Stat of the Week #6:
Brian Hoyer is the 44th highest paid QB this year, currently they are atop the AFC North. (Matt Moore is the 22nd highest paid QB this year, and has 21 yards passing this season). Russell Wilson is the 53rd highest paid QB this year, one spot behind Brock Osweiller.
Reader Stat of the Week #7:
This is the first time in NFL history that there has been any division with all teams 2 games or more above .500 (Thanks to Mickey for all of these!)
Quote of the Week:
Ben actually issued a statement saying that Justin Bieber wasn’t to blame for the Steelers loss on Sunday. Really?
How ‘Bout them Browns:
In the sentence I didn’t expect to hear in my lifetime, the Browns are alone in 1st place in the AFC North! Cleveland has let up the 4th fewest points in the league, and one can only imagine what would happen if Josh Gorden and Jordan Cameron were actually playing. They also only have 2 division games left, so they are past a tough hurdle in their schedule. It’s funny just how much press Johnny Manziel got from May to September, but now nobody has even heard his name with the team winning.
It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It…Really is a Bird
Seahawks mascot landing on fan was by far the funniest moment in the football season this year. Love how the camera catches the entire scene, including him petting the bird once the craziness is over!
For the Record:
Ray Rice is 10 weeks into his 2 week suspension, or 10 weeks into the 6 week domestic violence policy the NFL implemented, however you want to look at it.
For the Record #2:
Austin Davis was on pace for 4000 yards and 24 TD’s. Welcome to the NFL where that’s not good enough.
Ludicrous Super Bowl Pick:
How much money would you have won if you bet the Lions vs Browns in the Super Bowl at the beginning of the season. Both will host playoff games (as of today), there’s a chance of this happening! (Does “Battle of the Slums” make a good tagline?)
Games of the Week:
Lions at Cardinals
Eagles at Packers
Patriots at Colts
Seahawks at Chiefs
