FMQB: Feel the Rhythm, Feel the Rhyme, C’Mon Friday, It’s Football Time!
Last season was the season of comebacks. I’m already sensing a theme this year which is the season of surprise wins. Last week had 10 underdogs take it in one of Vegas’ most lucrative weekends. This week we had Rams beat Cowboys in Dallas, Bills beat Falcons, Panthers over Patriots in New England, and Texans with 57 points over Titans. I really don’t remember back to back weeks where I looked at the scoreboard to 5+ “wows.”
Surprise Records too!
The Bills and Rams are alone in 1st place in their division. Keep in mind these are divisions who have the Patriots (in 3 of the last 6 Super Bowls) and Seahawks (in 2 of the last 4 Super Bowls).
Stat of the Week #1:
The Rams have scored the most points through 4 games, at 142. They scored 224 all of last season
Stat of the Week #2:
Kareem Hunt was the leading rusher by 40 yds, before Monday night’s game even happened
Stat of the Week #3:
In the last 3 games, the 49ers have lost by 3, 2, and 3 points respectively.
Stat of the Week #4:
The Bills have only let up 4 TD’s so far, only 1 of which was a passing TD.
Stolen Stat of the Week #5:
Deshaun Watson had led the Texans to 90 points in the past two games, his second and third NFL starts. That’s more points than 16 teams have scored this season.
Stat of the Week #6:
Greg Zeurlein made more FG’s on Sunday than 14 teams have all season. He alone also outscored 16 teams on Sunday.
Sleeper Player:
Is Deshaun Watson this year’s Dak Prescott? He’s 2-1 as a starter, and his only loss was to the Patriots, which was a letdown by their defense. He has passing 7 TD’s and 2 Rushing TD’s in those 3 ½ games. Whenever you have reporters asking why a QB wasn’t starting earlier, that’s a good problem to have. He is shaping up for rookie of the year, and likely another playoff run with Ten dealing with injuries and mediocrity.
Sleeper Team:
My pick for a playoff team that’s not currently in the hunt is the Redskins. Are the Redskins a sleeper team? They handed the surging Rams their only loss, beat the Raiders, and went toe to toe with KC (probably should have won that game). If there’s any 2-2 team out there other than the Patriots who looks like a contender, its Washington.
Coaches on the Hot Seat:
I think Hue Jackson, Marvin Lewis, John Fox, Anthony Lynn (Chargers) and Chuck Pagano are all out this year. Hue Jackson is a dreadful 1-19 in his tenure there.
For the Record:
- There were people taking the Giants to win the Super Bowl, they’re 0-4
- The Patriots are dang close to being 1-4
- For tiebreaking purposes, the Jets are ahead of the Patriots in their division
- I didn’t think the Browns could get much worse, but they’ve given both the desperate Colts and Bengals their first wins of the season. They have the Jets next, this was the stretch where IF they’re going to win a game this year, it would have happened here.
- Nick Folk looked absolutely terrible kicking last night, and he WON the job over Roberto Aguayo.
- I know Carr went down, but the Broncos have still beaten the Cowboys and Raiders this season.
Meme of the Week:
If the Playoffs were to Start Today:
The Bills and Jaguars would both host a playoff game. Patriots would be out. The Rams would also host their game and the Eagles would have home field advantage.
No FMQB next week, I’ll be in Jamaica-mon! (Hence the title of this week’s article)
